Procurement is no longer just a back-office function — it’s now a strategic driver in a volatile global economy. Rising inflation, unpredictable supply chains, and geopolitical instability are reshaping how businesses manage costs and vendor relationships. Yet many procurement teams still rely on clunky, outdated tools that can’t keep up. That’s where Compri, a Milan-based startup, steps in — aiming to transform procurement with AI-powered automation.

Today, Compri announced a €1.6 million pre-seed funding round led by Italian Founders Fund (IFF) and DFF Ventures, with participation from top tech and procurement executives. Among the backers are Carl Tremblay, former Head of Growth at Plaid, and Giacinto Carullo, Chief Procurement Officer at Leonardo.

The startup plans to use the fresh capital to scale its commercial. And technical teams and roll out powerful AI agent features designed to automate complex procurement tasks. “The funding will help us accelerate growth and build automation tools that free up teams from repetitive work,” Compri told TFN.

Founded by Edoardo Arbizzi (ex-Accenture, Ferrari) and Edoardo Gava (former VC at Milano Investment Partners), Compri is built for mid-market industrial firms. Especially those generating €10 million to €1 billion in revenue. These companies often operate in under-digitized sectors with complex regulatory environments and fragmented supply chains.

Compri’s AI platform tackles some of procurement’s toughest challenges. It reduces manual workloads by up to 50%, driving 10% annual savings — and that directly improves margins. With a user base already growing, Compri is onboarding industrial clients managing revenues from €20 million to €300 million and expects to process over €500 million in spending through its platform soon.

The company is going after a massive addressable market. Over 70,000 businesses across Europe, including 15,000 in Italy, representing around €4 trillion in corporate expenditure. And the opportunity is clear: most of these companies lack effective tools to manage vendors, monitor spending, or track performance, often relying on spreadsheets and manual reconciliation

At the heart of Compri’s innovation is its AI-powered procurement automation platform, which integrates internal data — like ERP systems, email communications, and invoices — with external sources such as ESG scores, market indices, credit ratings, and news feeds. This synergy powers a suite of intelligent AI agents that can autonomously handle tasks like vendor communication, document exchange, and system updates.

Instead of spending hours updating spreadsheets or tracking supplier data manually, procurement teams can now get real-time insights, optimize negotiations, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk — all with minimal human effort. “It’s like having a world-class procurement team at your side, working around the clock,” said Arbizzi.

Unlike legacy players like SAP Ariba, Ivalua, or Coupa, Compri isn’t just digitizing workflows — it’s automating them. This distinction means teams can unlock strategic value faster, act on data in real-time, and reallocate their focus to higher-impact work.

The idea behind Compri came from the founders’ time working with private equity-backed companies. Where procurement was often a hidden goldmine for value creation. They saw how external consultants used data to drive margin improvements. And they realized those insights could now be scaled through AI, even without the hefty consulting fees.

This vision attracted the attention of forward-looking investors. “We immediately saw great potential in Compri,” said Lorenzo Franzi, Partner at Italian Founders Fund. “Their approach is tailored to Europe’s fragmented industrial landscape, and their execution-first mindset makes them stand out.”

DFF Ventures echoed the excitement. “Procurement teams manage millions in spending but often rely on legacy tools,” said Laurens Groenendijk, General Partner. “Compri offers instant visibility into what’s being bought, from whom, and at what price — without the manual hassle. It’s like hiring a procurement analyst on steroids.”

Compri’s engineering team includes machine learning. And data science veterans from high-growth European tech firms like Lansweeper, Satispay, and Scalapay, signaling strong product-building expertise.

As Compri scales across Europe, it aims to become the go-to platform for AI-powered procurement automation. Helping companies save money, boost productivity, and build more resilient supply chains.
