Apple is reportedly planning a major product blitz for 2027, marking the 20th anniversary of the iPhone with what could be its most ambitious lineup yet. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that year could bring everything from a curved glass iPhone to AI-powered robots and smart glasses designed to rival Meta’s Ray-Bans.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman says Apple is gearing up for a redesign that includes a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” with no display cutouts—meaning a truly edge-to-edge screen. This model is expected to house the front camera underneath the display, a detail supported by a separate report from The Information. If Apple pulls this off, it would be the company’s cleanest, most futuristic iPhone yet—just in time for the device’s 20-year milestone.
This isn’t the first time Apple has flirted with such radical design ideas. Back in 2019, a patent described a phone completely encased in glass, forming a seamless loop around the device. While it’s unlikely Apple will go full “banana-phone,” Gurman’s note about a curved glass body suggests something far sleeker and more sculptural than today’s iPhone 15 Pro.
What Else Is Coming in 2027?
The iPhone isn’t the only big thing on Apple’s roadmap. If Gurman’s sources are accurate, 2027 could be one of the most important years in Apple’s hardware history.
- Foldable iPhone: After years of speculation, Apple’s first foldable smartphone may finally arrive. The device would take on foldables from Samsung and Google while showcasing Apple’s polished take on flexible displays.
- Apple Smart Glasses: The company is also eyeing its first real entry into smart eyewear. These AR glasses would compete directly with the Meta Ray-Ban partnership, likely offering more advanced integration with the iOS ecosystem.
- Camera-equipped AirPods and Apple Watch: Apple may also embed camera systems into AirPods and Watches, bringing new levels of functionality and perhaps even spatial video capabilities into everyday wearables.
- Apple Home Robot: One of the more surprising additions is a tabletop robot assistant, which Gurman says will feature an AI-powered personality. This idea echoes past internal experiments, like a robotic desk lamp with expressive movements—suggesting Apple wants to make home robots feel more like companions than tools.
- AI-Powered Siri and Server-Side Chips: On the AI front, Gurman expects a long-overdue upgrade to Siri, powered by large language models (LLMs). Apple is also said to be developing custom AI chips to handle server-side processing, led by its Israel-based silicon team—the same group that helped build the Apple Silicon chips that replaced Intel in Macs.
This server-side AI infrastructure is a critical move as Apple looks to catch up with rivals like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI in the generative AI space. These new chips could help power everything from personalized Siri interactions to smarter home automation tools.
